Job Description for Children's Director (Part-time)
North Charleston United Methodist Church seeks to hire a Children's Director who will continue to grow our children's ministry. This ministry should be relational, engaging, and grounded in faith - offering opportunities for worship, fellowship, service, and spiritual growth. We seek someone who will help children grow as followers of Jesus Christ.
Spiritual Qualifications
- Possess and demonstrate a passion for Christ through spiritual discipline, example and ministry.
- A passion for reaching and discipling children.
- Alignment with the mission and doctrine of the United Methodist Church.
Professional Qualifications
- Experience: Previous experience in children's ministry (paid or volunteer) preferred.
- Leadership: Training in children's development, discipleship, or small group leadership is a plus; Strong communication skills with youth, parents, staff, and church leadership.
- Safety and Policy Qualifications: Ability to pass a background check; Willingness to follow Safe Sanctuaries / child protection policies.
General Duties
- Create, develop and lead worship opportunities including, but not limited to:
- Sunday Morning Church (during both services)
- Sunday School
- Vacation Bible School
- Welcome and follow-up with families who visit church service and activities.
- Communicate with families regularly (weekly or monthly) about the activities going on with the children's department.
- Collaborate with the youth leader to bridge children into the youth program as they approach youth age (sixth grade).
- Collaborate with Church committees, Youth Leader and Pastor to plan and support church events for families.
- Ensure all volunteers comply with Safe Sanctuary policy.
- Manage the children's program budget in cooperation with the Pastor and Finance Committee.
- Maintain a current list of contact information for all families and volunteers.
- Provide information on current activities and programs for the newsletter, bulletin and social media pages.
- Attend Church Council meetings and provide reports with Children's Program updates.
- Any additional duties as agreed upon by the Children's Leader, SPRC and the Pastor.
Vacation
Position provides four Sundays of paid leave per year. The Children's Director will arrange for a substitute at the church's expense. Any additional Sunday absences must be prearranged with the Pastor and Staff-Parish Relations Team and may be approved without pay.
Salary
$15,000-$20,000 depending on experience
