Job Description for Youth Leader (Part-time)

North Charleston United Methodist Church seeks to hire a Youth Leader who will continue to grow our youth ministry. This ministry should be relational, engaging, and grounded in faith - offering opportunities for worship, fellowship, service, and spiritual growth. We seek someone who will help students grow as followers of Jesus Christ.

Spiritual Qualifications

  1. Possess and demonstrate a passion for Christ through spiritual discipline, example and ministry.
  2. A passion for reaching and discipling youth.
  3. Alignment with the mission and doctrine of the United Methodist Church.

Professional Qualifications

  1. Experience: Previous experience in youth ministry (paid or volunteer) preferred.
  2. Leadership: Training in youth development, discipleship, or small group leadership is a plus; Strong communication skills with youth, parents, staff, and church leadership.
  3. Safety and Policy Qualifications: Ability to pass a background check; Willingness to follow Safe Sanctuaries / child protection policies.

General Duties

  1. Work with the Youth Assistant in planning and implementing a creative and meaningful weekly worship experience each week. (Sunday School hour).
  2. Plan and support monthly social and/or mission based activities for the youth, including participation in a yearly youth retreat.
  3. Welcome and follow-up with youth visitors (and their families) to church activities.
  4. Communicate with youth and their families regularly (weekly or monthly) about the activities going on with the youth department.
  5. Collaborate with children's ministry leaders to bridge children into the youth program as they approach youth age (sixth grade).
  6. Collaborate with Church committees, Children's Director and Pastor to plan and support church events for families.
  7. Ensure all volunteers comply with Safe Sanctuary policy.
  8. Manage the youth program budget in cooperation with the Pastor and Finance Committee.
  9. Maintain a current list of contact information for all youth families and volunteers.
  10. Provide information on current activities and programs for the newsletter, bulletin and social media pages.
  11. Attend Church Council meetings and provide reports with Youth Program updates.
  12. Any additional duties as agreed upon by the Youth Leader, SPRC and the Pastor.

Vacation

Position provides four Sundays of paid leave per year. The Youth Leader will arrange for a substitute at the church's expense. Any additional Sunday absences must be prearranged with the Pastor and Staff-Parish Relations Team and may be approved without pay.

Salary

$15,000-$20,000 depending on experience
